Former Nebraska safety shot in Omaha

Former Husker and NFL football player Tony Veland was shot Monday night near his high school alma mater, Omaha Benson . Police say his injuries are not life-threatening. The shooting was reported just after nine Monday night. The 38 year old Veland, apparently was shot inside a Ford Explorer that had been peppered with gunshots.

Lancers Shut Out The Buccaneers, Again

John Keeney turned aside all 25 shots he faced as the Omaha Lancers recorded their second consecutive shutout blanking the Des Moines Buccaneers 4-0 Friday night.  With the win, the Lancers remain in sole possession of third place in the Western Conference.  Omaha has now won four straight games and has claimed victories in eight of its last 10 games. Women’s triathlon coming to Omaha

A challenge for all women in Nebraska. The first U-S-A Omaha Women’s Triathlon is scheduled for May 22nd. This is a great opportunity for women to show what they are made of, but competing in the event that includes swimming 750 kilometers, biking 20 kilometers and

then a 5-K run.

Event director Allen Kohll says most women can train for this event in three months. Women’s only events in the U-S are growing at an increasingly rapid pace especially in the area of triathlon. Over 800 women are expected to

take part coming from all areas of the country.

All proceeds will benefit the Olson Center for Women’s Health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Registration is underway and you can get more information at http://www.omahawomenstri.com/.

Nighthawks Head For The East Coast

The Omaha Nighthawks and the Hartford Colonials will face off for the second time this season, in what will be a critical game as the United Football League’s first half comes to a close.  Omaha (2-1) comes to Connecticut off its first-ever loss in Week 4, while Hartford will play its third of four home games at Rentschler Field trying to snap a two-game losing streak. Nighthawks Lose First Game Of Season

A sterling defensive effort by the Las Vegas Locos ended the Omaha Nighthawks’ perfect start and created a logjam atop the UFL standings. The Locos forced three Omaha turnovers and allowed Nighthawks quarterback Jeff Garcia little room to throw on their way to a 22-10 victory Friday night at Sam Boyd Stadium. [Read more...]
