The University of Nebraska at Omaha continued its winning ways on Tuesday by sweeping North Central Conference foe St. Cloud State, 6-5 and 8-1.
The Mavericks (36-10, 16-0), who only trailed the Huskies (21-20-1, 7-9) once in the four-game series, now gear up for a weekend series in Mankato against Minnesota State which will decide who wins the last NCC regular season title.
In game, each team scored four times in the opening inning. Evan Porter continued his hot streak with a three-run homer to make it 4-0 Mavs.
Taylor Weisbeck had a rough bottom of the first, allowing four runs to score on three hits. The Huskies took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning off Weisbeck to grab a 5-4 lead. Brandon Dahl (2-0) pitched the last two innings to earn the win.
Mat Eikmeier got the comeback started in the top of the seventh, working a walk then scoring on a Bryan Frew single to tie the game at five. Chris Weimer came up to the plate and singled through the left side, scoring Jeremy Klein, to put UNO up 6-5. Dahl then worked a scoreless bottom of the seventh for the win.
In the nightcap UNO scored three runs in the first inning highlighted by a Josh Shirk two-run single. Brian Goliber added to the lead in the third inning with a two-run double that put the Mavericks up 6-0. The Mavericks added the final two runs in the sixth inning.
Tim Huber (6-1) pitched four and two-thirds innings, allowing one run while striking out five. Blake Denoyer came in to shut out the Huskies the last two and a third innings and fanned four.
