Missouri junior Aaron Crow set a new school record for wins in a season as he improved to 12-0 after the Tigers’ 8-1 victory over Nebraska on Friday night at Taylor Stadium. Crow allowed just one run on four hits and struck out eight in 8.1 innings pitched.
Nebraska’s lone run of the night came when Jake Mort, the second batter of the game, hit his first home run of the year in the first. The Huskers had two hits in the first inning and two more in the second inning, then did not record another hit over the final seven innings of the game.
Mizzou scored all of eight of its runs in its final two at-bats. Mizzou then exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning, sending 11 batters to the plate in the frame. Sophomore Aaron Senne and senior Jacob Priday each singled to start the bottom of the eighth and sophomore Trevor Coleman drew a walk to load the bases. Freshman Jonah Schmidt then drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly. Gray followed by doubling to drive in Priday and Coleman. The Tigers loaded the bases again in the eighth and Gray scored when junior Ryan Lollis was hit by a pitch. Senne then delivered his second hit of the inning, with a bases-clearing, three-run double.
Game two of the series is Saturday at 2 p.m. with the regular season finale on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Taylor Stadium.
