The I-R-S says a growing number of Nebraskans filed their tax returns electronically this past season, a trend that’s coinciding with national numbers. I-R-S spokesman Christopher Miller says more people are opting to use e-filing as it’s fast, easy and brings a refund check quicker.
He says about 68-percent of all tax returns filed by Nebraskans so far this year were e-filed, which is ahead of last year by 12-percent. Miller says about 566-thousand taxpayers opted for e-filing this year out of 808-thousand individual tax returns expected. He says the national average is following the same trend.
Miller says the nation has surpassed last year’s total already this year and over half of the year still remains. With so many people e-filing, the number of people filing their own taxes is also increasing. So far, Miller says, there is an 18-percent increase in the number of Nebraskans who chose to prepare their own taxes this year.
