Conor Gillaspie, who played his prep ball at Millard North in Omaha, now a senior third baseman at Wichita State was selected 37th overall by the San Francisco Giants in the supplemental round which is between the first and second rounds.
He was projected to go as high at 17th. His Shockers play Florida State in the Super Regionals this weekend with a trip to his hometown in the balance to play in the College World Series.
MLB.com’s scouting report says Gillaspie is not much of a power hitter and is not fleet footed defensively and has an average arm. On the good side, they say he’s got smarts on the base paths and is a pure hitter who knows how to handle the bat.
