Three University of Nebraska baseball players were honored with selections on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Midwest Region Team. Catcher Mitch Abeita was a first-team all-region selection, while second baseman Jake Opitz and starting pitcher Johnny Dorn were both second-team selections.
Abeita, a 19th- round pick by the New York Yankees, in last week’s draft, hit .337 with 10 homers and 49 RBIs en route to being named a Johnny Bench Award semifinalist.
Dorn earned second-team all-region accolades after compiling a 6-2 record and a 2.45 ERA in 15 starts this season. He was a 15th-round choice of the Florida Marlins,
Opitz earned all-region honors as a second-team selection. Opitz was a 12th-round pick by the Chicago Cubs, following a season in which Opitz hit .339 with 11 homers and 50 RBIs.
