Fresno State jumped out to an 11-0 lead through four innings and never looked back in a 17-5 victory over Rice in the first game of day two of the 2008 Men’s College World Series, Sunday.
The victory moved the Bulldogs to 43-29. Fresno State also advances to the winners’ bracket game Tuesday night at 6 p.m. (Central) against the winner of Sunday’s second game between second-seeded North Carolina and seventh-seeded LSU. Rice (47-14) will play Tuesday at 1 p.m. (Central) against the loser of the North Carolina/LSU contest.
Fresno State used three big innings to seal the victory. The Bulldogs had a four-run second inning, a seven-run fourth inning and a five-run sixth inning then added a single run in eighth to cap the scoring.
