Heels open with impressive win over LSU

June 16, 2008 By Bill Pollock

The Tar Heels backed the solid pitching of Alex White with a relentless 17-hit attack that featured 15 singles to produce an 8-4 Bracket Two victory before 22,239 at Rosenblatt Stadium.

LSU opened the game with Michael Hollander’s homer. An inning later, Matt Clark slammed his nation-leading 27th. But when the dust cleared, second-seeded North Carolina (52-12) was headed for a Tuesday night winners’ game against Fresno State while the Tigers (48-18-1) were staring at a Tuesday elimination game against Rice.
