If your looking to ride the rail to any destination west, you’ll have to take a bus. Amtrak spokesman Mark Magliari tells us the flooding in Iowa is making it impossible to get a train across that state.
“We’ll be operating this alternate transportation across that area (Nebraska). Chartered busses will represent the train in Nebraska and make all the stops at all the stations and take passengres to Denver, where they’ll join the train. The Route this California Zephyr uses across Iowa on the BNSF Railway is closed and likely will stay that way through this week. That means we are able to run alternate transportation across Nebraska, but only as far as Omaha, there are quite a few roads closed across Iowa so we cannot bring the alternate transportation across that state.”
That means your destination would need to be west – traveling east may require a plane.
