The Autism Center of Nebraska is under investigation. State Auditor Mike Foley released a report Wednesday, accusing the center of deliberately falsifying records to deceive state officials. He says they improperly inflated the hours of service supposedly provided to its developmentally disabled clients.
Foley claims the Autism Center maintained 18 different credit card accounts and used taxpayer money to Go on a shopping spree at Victoria Secret, buy a $700 Rottweiler, and even put a deck on a rental house. It’s alleged almost a quarter of a million dollars in taxpayer money was spent.
The Auditor says the center’s unethical management practices render it unworthy of government funding. The state-funded Center receives 98% of its funding from government sources. The case is being sent to Attorney General Jon Bruning. HHS is ending their contract with the center.
