State Auditor Mike Foley says the people that run the Autism Center of Nebraska have been fired, and he is now working with the agency to help them continue to work with families in the state.
“And the Reality is, most of the service providers within the Autism center are decent honorable people, it was a few bad apples at the top who were playing fast and loose with state money. I think they’re taking very seriously now the work that my office has done and with some personnel changes and some policy changes the Autism Center can be salvaged.”
Foley says if the Department of Health and Human Services continues to use the Autism Center of Nebraska, he will keep a close watch of the books. The center is accused of using taxpayer money for a dog, lingerie, and even alcohol purchases.
