Brian Buchanan’s grand slam in the bottom of the 7th snapped the O-Royals winning streak with an 8-6 win over the Memphis Redbirds.
Down 5-4 heading into the 7th, Omaha mounted their comeback. Ron Flores took over for Memphis in the seventh and struck out David Matranga to start the inning, but he walked Mitch Maier and yielded a single to Jason Smith. John Wasdin was brought in and Ryan Shealy loaded the bases with a swinging bunt single. Then Buchanan hit a grand slam over the left field wall giving the Royals an 8-5 lead.
Yasuhiko Yabuto (1-1) turned in four strong innings of relief to pick up his first win. He allowed just one run on two hits in helping snap the Royals five-game losing streak.
