Lynn Finney, a linebacker for two years at NU back in 1972 will be sentenced in September after pleading guilty to theft by deception by reusing a canceled check from athletics director Tom Osborne.
Authorities say in February Osborne gave Finney a personal check for $161 to buy medicine at Wal-Mart. When Finney paid, the cashier stamped the back of the check and gave it back to Finney.
Finney then used the electronically voided check at a restaurant for $60 and got $100 in cash. He allegedly told the server he got the check from Osborne as part of a fund raiser.
