Red and Blue squads split DH

July 31, 2008 By Bill Pollock

In the Nebraska Coaches Association softball all star doubleheader last night, the Red and Blue squads split the pair of games.
The Red team won the first game 2-1 with a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh inning before the Blue squad pounded out 12 hits in game two en route to a 4-1 victory.

Melanie Patrick of Hastings tripled down the right-field line, then Erica McCoy of Bellevue West sent a 2-2 pitch over the left fielder’s head that landed just short of the warning track for the game winner.

In game two, the Red team scored first when Lincoln East’s Amanda Forgey singled home Westside’s Christa Ruf in the first inning.

In the bottom of the second, the Blue team tied the game and in the third, Jamie Gay of Beatrice scored the go-ahead run after reaching on a single, taking second on a passed ball and coming home on a single. The Blues then added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.
