Governor Names new Director of Labor

August 25, 2008 By Nebraska Radio Network Contributor

A longtime tax official is picked to lead the state’s labor department which has been beset by problems over the past year. Governor Dave Heineman says that deputy tax commissioner Catherine Lang can help keep young people in Nebraska.”Not a single high school or college graduate should be leaving our state because we have jobs for them right here in Nebraska, Secondly, if you’re the proud parent of a son or daughter in the last decade you should go home tonight, call ’em up and tell them to come to Nebraska, because we have a job for them.”

Lang takes over the post held by Fernando Lecuona (loo-coin-uh). Accounting problems and nepotism concerns in the department were uncovered over the past year, but a Heineman spokeswoman has said Lecuona was not asked to resign.
