What the city council couldn’t do, some Fremont residents are hoping to do themselves. A group of Fremont residents is moving forward with a proposal to hold a special election on an effort that would target illegal immigrants.
They’ve gotten the city clerk’s okay to circulate a petition that would force a special election on the issue. They aim to ban the harboring of illegals, in addition to prohibiting anyone from renting them housing, or hiring them for a job.
Fremont’s City Attorney says the petition shadows a proposed ordinance that failed to win the City Council’s approval last month in a heavily publicized vote that gained wide attention.
