Suspended Husker offensive lineman Andy Christensen was found not guilty late Tuesday afternoon of an alleged March sexual assault of a 23 year old woman.
The jury returned their verdict after 11 hours of deliberations. The 22-year-old Bennington, Nebraska native, had been charged with molesting a 23-year-old Lincoln woman in a downtown Lincoln bar on the night of March 7.
The jury of six men and six women met all day Tuesday after prosecutors rested their case Friday. They returned their verdict shortly after 5 p.m. Neither the prosecutor nor Christensen’s attorney had any comment on the verdict.
Christensen had pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges for resisting arrest that night. Sentencing on those charges was set for November.
Christensen was suspended from the team following the March incident. Nebraska head football coach Bo Pelini says he needs more information before deciding whether Christensen should be allowed to play again.
