Nebraska Cornhusker wide receiver Nate Swift is closing in on Johnny Rodgers career receptions record.
Rodgers’ number isn’t lofty at 143, but the lore that surrounds Rodgers who was on the ‘70 and ‘71 National Championship teams and his Heisman in ’72, is still at an all time high. Rodgers’ record has stood thanks to the triple option that was employed by NU teams in the 80’s and 90’s.
Heading into this weekend’s game against Baylor, Swift has 136 career catches, needing just eight more to break the record. Swift said he’s not about breaking the record, but if it does happen, whether this week or next in Norman, OK, Swift said, “It’s going to be a great honor just to be listed up there with a name like that.”
