Husker freshmen Eshaunte Jones has a chronic foot problem that bothered him even when he scored 16 points in 16 minutes against Chadron State. NU head coach Doc Sadler said Jones foot may not let him finish out the year.
Jones is going to try to gut it out early in the season, but ultimately could claim a medical hardship and redshirt this year. We’ll get a pretty good indication pretty early. The Huskers open on the 16th against San Jose State and play two more games next week. Wednesday the 19th at TCU and home on Saturday the 22nd against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The Omaha-World Herald is also reporting that the Huskers are close to getting three signed:
Vander Joaquim, 6-10, 220, F-C, El Cajon, Calif. The native of Angola is averaging 11 rebounds a game at Mountain State Academy prep school in West Virginia. Last season at a high school in California, Joaquim averaged 21.1 points and 16.8 rebounds.
Brandon Ubel, 6-9, 220, F, Overland Park, Kan. Known for his 3-point shooting, Ubel averaged 20 points a game in summer AAU play on a team coached by former NBA player Scott Wedman.
Rayes Gallegos, 6-2, 175, G, Salt Lake City. Another player whose stock rose during summer AAU play, where he averaged 25 points a game.
