Creighton handles Ark. Pine Bluff 82-50

November 21, 2008 By Bill Pollock

Creighton men’s basketball team improved to 2-0 with an 82-50 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Thursday night. The Blue Jays never trailed while improving to 2-0.

Creighton’s 18 steals tied a school-record done three times previously, most recently Nov. 29, 2007 against Savannah State.

Creighton went on a 15-0 run late in the first half before a late basket by UAPB’s Terrance Calvin ended the streak, putting the Bluejay lead at 45-26 at the half. CU shot 53.8 percent from the floor in the first half while holding Pine Bluff to 33.3 percent. The Golden Lions did lead on the glass, 21-14, at intermission.

Creighton’s lead remained at 16 or larger the entire second half, with the 32-point final margin matching its largest of the night. Cavel Witter scored 13 of his game-high 15 points in the second half, making all four shots from the floor in just nine second-half minutes.

Head coach Dana Altman was not happy with the team’s rebounding and they must improve as they get set to take on Oral Roberts Saturday night.  Listen to coach Altman’s comments below.
