Watson wants to be a head coach

December 12, 2008 By Bill Pollock

It’s that time of the year.  Bowl season and oh yes coaching rumors.  Offensive coordinator Shawn Watson’s name has come up a few times about becoming a head coach.  There’s no doubt that’s his desire to one day run his own program.

I’m also keeping my eye on former Husker Turner Gill who was considered for the NU job with Pelini.   Gill has confirmed he has interviewed at Syracuse and Auburn, but he also said there were other programs, but he didn’t go into specifics.  Gill was at one point last year a consideration for the NU coaching job.

The Big 12 fared pretty well last night at the College Football Awards Show from Orlando Florida.

OU’s Sam Bradford beat out Graham Harrell of Texas Tech and Colt McCoy of Texas for the Davey O’Brien Award. Tebow won the O’Brien award last year before winning the Heisman.  Harrell won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, McCoy won the Walter Camp, player of the year award.  Michael Crabtree of Tech won for best receiver, Missouri’s Chase Coffman best tight end, Brian Arakpo of Texas, defensive player of the year and best D-lineman and defensive end.  Matt Fodge of Oklahoma State won the best punter.
