If you were one of the lucky 17,430 who packed the Qwest Center in Omaha last night or you watched it on national TV, you may have seen one of the greatest volleyball matches.
I even stayed up past 11 o’clock to watch 4th ranked Nebraska took on #1 Penn State and their 62 match winning streak. The Nittany Lions haven’t lost a set all year!
It looked like it was going to be a breeze for Penn State. They won the first two sets by scores of 25-17, 25-18 to run their streak to 111. Just like the regional final, the Huskers came back. They stormed to win the third 25-15, then held off Penn State to win the 4th 25-22.
The Huskers were up 10-8 in the fifth and final set. Penn State took a timeout regrouped and finished off the Huskers with a 7-1 run to win 15-11 and advance to the finals on Saturday against Stanford.
This team lost two national players of the year and four all-Americans. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for John Cook. The Huskers finish 31-2.
