Junior Megan Neuvirth hit her fifth double-double of year scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough for the Creighton Lady Jays as they lose their Missouri Valley Conference opener to Illinois State 63-43.
The Lady Jays went cold in the second half while nursing a one point half time lead. Creighton scored just 13 points in the second half on 14% shooting to help hand Illinois State it’s eighth straight win.
The Redbirds are picked to win the conference. Creighton led 30-24 with less than a minute to go in the first half, but Illinois State had two free throws and a three pointer off a steal to close the gap at the intermission.
Illinois State then used a 17-4 run to open the second half. Creighton now 5-7 plays their third game in a row from home on Saturday at Indiana State.
