The pep talk AD Tom Osborne gave at Doc Sadler’s request to the Nebraska basketballl team must have worked. The Huskers jumped out to a lead and held off a late Red Raider rally to win at Texas Tech 82-69.
Cookie Miller and Ade Dagundaro, who missed a couple days with a stomach virus, paced the Huskers (13-7, 3-4) with a combined 39 points.
Miller tied a career high with 19 points with 7 of 10 shooting. Dagundaro had 20 thanks to a perfect 10 for 10 from the free throw line.
The Huskers were up by double digits in the second half, but Tech came back and rallied after Pat Knight was ejected from the game (like father like son)
Knight was ejected from the game for receiving two technical fouls after running onto the court to protest a foul called on his player. Knight rushed to midcourt following the replay on the in-house video board.
Off the technicals, Paul Velander hit two of the four free throws from the Huskers got a pair of free throws and a basket by Miller to run out to the 66-49 lead.
Then the Red Raiders rallied, using the three ball. Tech hit nine three pointers, including five by John Roberson, who fouled out with a team high 19 points.
The Red Raiders got to five points twice with under four minutes to play, but Dagunduro and Miller went 8 for 8 at the line, and Sek Henry made two more free throws to seal the win.
