Parishoners of Lincoln’s Berean Church were victims of a crime that has never been seen before. A man posing as a security officer of an armored car came to the church at 84th & Highway 2 Tuesday morning to pick up the weekend collections. After signing for the money, he left. But 15 minutes later, another security officer arrived at the church. Only this officer was legitimate and the church was suddenly out $145,000 in collections.
Police Chief Tom Casady tells us that he is stumped by the case because his research turned up no such similar crimes ever in Lincoln or anywhere else. Casady says most of the collections were in the form of checks, so total cash stolen is around $4,000.
