The Hastings College women’s basketball team took care of the College of Idaho 76-64 in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa at the Tyson Events Center.
After a two point lead at the half, Hastings offense exploded as they would out-score the Coyotes by ten points in the second half. The first half would see two lead changes by each team as the Lady Broncos would fight to a 38-36 advantage. Hastings would dominate the glass as they out-rebounded College of Idaho 51-36 including a 22-13 advantage on the offensive end.
Lindsay Ducey would lead the way for the Lady Broncos as she would have a team high 21 points and 18 rebounds. Ducey was 8 of 17 from the floor and snagged five steals. Kay Broekemeier would also score in double figures as she added 16 points, 7 steals and 4 assists for the Lady Broncos. Broekemeier would drain four 3-pointers for Hastings. Heather McKeon would chip in with 9 points while teammates Kim Faimon and Alicia Statler would add 7 points each. Hastings would ice the game down the stretch as they were 16 of 17 from the charity stripe.
College of Idaho ends their season with a overall record of 29-5 while the Lady Broncos improve to 24-7. Hastings will move on to the second round as they face number one seed and second ranked Shawnee State University on Friday, March 13 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Shawnee State is currently 31-0 on the season. Tip off is set for 10:15 a.m.
