Audit finds Otoe County court is missing $29K

March 19, 2009 By Matt Kelley

A state audit finds the Otoe County District Court is missing $29,000. State Auditor Mike Foley says a former district court employee is responsible for the missing cash.

Teresa White was a deputy clerk who was fired in January after several years of working there and she’s since moved to Oklahoma. The audit found deposits missing from February of 2007 and from this January.

Auditor Foley blames the court’s poor accounting practices for the loss. An accountant who’d been hired by the Otoe County Board did an audit before White was fired and found no wrongdoing.
