The Husker wrestling squad has 24 team points and sits behind Ohio State (30), and Iowa and Iowa State (33) after day one of the 2009 NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis.
Four Husker wrestlers picked up second-round wins to advance to the quarterfinals. Junior Jordan Burroughs picked up his second pin of the season against Purdue’s Colton Salazar. Burroughs faces ninth-seeded Cyler Sanderson of Iowa State in the quarterfinals Friday.
Senior Vince Jones and junior Craig Brester added major decisions at 184 and 197 pounds in the championship bracket. Jones will face fourth-seeded Kirk Smith of Boise State next.
Brester takes on ninth-seeded Cayle Byers of George Mason in the quarterfinals.
