Creighton (27-7) continues play in the National Invitation Tournament when it hosts Kentucky (21-13) in second-round action on Monday at 6 pm Central. The winner of Monday’s game will face Notre Dame (20-14) in a quarterfinal NIT game on Wednesday. If Creighton wins Monday, that game against Notre Dame would be held on Wednesday in Omaha.
Kentucky brings a 21-13 record into Monday’s game after last Tuesday’s 70-60 home win over UNLV. This is the Wildcats 18th straight postseason appearance, but first NIT bid since 1979.
Kentucky is led by second-team All-American Jodie Meeks (24.0 ppg.), who ranks sixth nationally in points per game. Meeks owns the nation’s top-three single-game scoring performances in regulation this season, including a school-record 54 points at Tennessee on Jan. 13th.
Inside, all-Southeastern Conference big man Patrick Patterson averages 18.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots per game while shooting 60.6 percent from the field. All four totals rank among the top-four marks in the SEC. Six other players average between 3.8 and 7.6 points per contest.
Kentucky averages 74.6 points per game while allowing 66.1 per contest. UK ranks third nationally with 6.8 blocks per game, sixth in free-throw percentage (77.4 percent) and ninth in field goal percentage defense (38.8 percent). The Wildcats are 4-6 in true road games this season.
