Vicente Cafaro set a career-high going 5 for 5 and scored a career high five times as Creighton handled Nebraska 15-0 in Lincoln Tuesday evening.
The score was close with CU up 4-0 through six innings, but the Bluejays scored three in the 7th, then added eight in the 8th on three hits, six walks, a balk, a hit batter and a wild pitch, sending 13 to the plate. Nebraska freshman Taylor Massey, in his first career outing, recorded one out and then walked five of the next six batters. Former Husker Mike Nihsen pitched five innings in relief giving up just three hits.
The Huskers managed just three hits in the first six innings and each of those baserunners were erased by double plays. The Huskers never pushed a runner past second base.
This was just the third time the Huskers were shut out at Haymarket Park since it opened in 2002. The Bluejays return to action Friday night at 6:00, as the team takes on Northern Iowa at Rosenblatt Stadium. The Huskers will host 9th ranked Texas this weekend. Creighton has battled back to .500 with a 15-15 record. NU is now 16-15-1.
