CU’s Roemmich named scholar athlete of the week

May 5, 2009 By Bill Pollock

T.J. Roemmich (pronounced REM-ick) of Creighton University was selected the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week,

An outfielder for the Creighton baseball team, Roemmich, a junior from West Des Moines, Iowa, batted a team-best .435 (10-for-23), as the Bluejays won five-consecutive road games last week — at South Dakota State (5-2 on April 28), at Iowa (12-3 on April 29) and at Illinois State (8-3 on May 1, 12-2 on May 2 and 10-6 on May 3).

The MVC Player of the Week, Roemmich, who has a 3.865 cumulative grade-point average in finance, collected three doubles, a triple, a homer and 10 runs batted in on the week. He clubbed his team-leading eighth homer at Iowa and keyed a rally in the 10-6 win at Illinois State, collecting two doubles as the Jays rallied from a 6-0 deficit.
