Brian Buchanan’s single to right in the bottom of the ninth brought in the winning run as the Omaha Royals beat Memphis 2-1 Tuesday night to pull back within a half-game of first-place Memphis in the PCL’s American North.
Kila Ka’aihue started the ninth with a single, then reliever Matt Scherer walked Ryan Shealy and gave up a single to Travis Metcalf to load the bases.
Omaha reliever Roman Colon (2-1) struck out three while allowing only one hit over two scoreless innings to pick up the win, but it was starter Brandon Duckworth who turned in a solid performance. He allowed one run on six hits over seven innings. Duckworth dropped his ERA from 9.53 to 5.40, allowing two earned runs over his last 12 innings.
The Royals got on the board first in the third inning when Tommy Murphy hit his first of the season in the third inning. It was Omaha’s first home run in eight games.
