Nebraska-Kearney had an opportunity to move into the title game of the RMAC tournament, but lost a back and forth game 8-7 to New Mexico-Highlands.New Mexico Highlands benefitted from a double by Danny Brown to climb ahead of Nebraska-Kearney 8-7 Friday night, claiming a spot in the RMAC Championship game.
With the win, the Cowboys will play in the RMAC Championship at 3 p.m. Saturday against the winner of CSU-Pueblo/Nebraska-Kearney, which takes place at noon Saturday.
Brown’s RBI double vaulted the Cowboys back into a lead they held for a bulk of the neck-and-neck contest. Highlands responded to a five-run third by Kearney to put up five runs of its own in the bottom of the third, taking a 6-5 lead it held until the seventh inning.
In the 7th, a two-run shot by Blake Cover put Kearney ahead 7-6, before Highlands tied it up in the bottom of the 7th.
