Senior Kirkland Thornton won individual titles in the men’s 110 and 400 meter hurdles at the NCAA Midwest Regional Track and Field Championships in Oklahoma City this weekend. Thornton leads five other Huskers onto Nationals.
Freshman Tyler Hitchler, turned in a third-place showing in the men’s discus. Sophomore Seth Burney, the Big 12 champion in the pole vault finished fourth. Brian Parr finished fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. For the women, junior Epley Bullock finished second in the high jump. Junior Leandra McGruder was fifth in the triple jump.
The 7th ranked Husker men finished 2nd overall at the regional. The women, ranked 19th nationally, placed 10th overall.
Several Huskers must now await at-large bids for nationals which will be announced later this week. The NCAA outdoor championships take place June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
