The Omaha Royals who lost their fifth game when leading after eight innings. An error and two hits led to two runs and a 2-1 win for Round Rock over Omaha. The downfall in the ninth ruined a great pitching performance from Brandon Duckworth who pitched eight scoreless innings.
In the ninth, reliever Victor Marte got the first two outs, but J.R. Towles, reached on a throwing error by third baseman Tommy Murphy. Towles then made it to third as he stole second base and moved to third on bad throw by catcher Matt Tupman. Then Chris Johnson tripled to left center field to tie the game and scored the go-ahead run on John Gall’s single.
Omaha starter Brandon Duckworth’s ERA went from 5.55 to 4.75 after he pitched eight shutout innings, allowing four hits and three walks, and struck out six while trimming his ERA to 4.75.
The series continues tonight at 7:05, with Round Rock RH Bud Norris (2-4, 2.75 ERA) facing Omaha LH Lenny DiNardo (4-1, 3.29). Norris, 24, is rated Houston’s top pitching prospect by Baseball America magazine.
