The Round Rock Express scored three runs in the ninth inning and for the third game in a row, came back to beat the Omaha Royals in their final at-bat of the game, winning Thursday night 4-1.
First, an RBI single by John Gall and a two-run single by Lou Santangelo off reliever Greg Atencio (2-4) handed the O-Royals a PCL-worst 1-5 record when tied after eight innings. They are 2-12 in games decided in the final at-bat.
The say if you get good starting pitching you’ll win ballgames, but that wasn’t the case in this series. Bruce Chen, Brandon Duckworth and Lenny DiNardo combined to allow Round Rock one run on 12 hits in 22.2 innings for a .40 ERA, to go along with four walks and 23 strikeouts yet Omaha lost all three games. (Chen came in after Luke Hochevar started the first two innings on Tuesday).
