The proposed University of Nebraska budget includes what would be the second-lowest tuition increase in more than 20 years, but could lead to layoffs and program cuts at campuses.
President Milliken’s budget prposal includes a 4 percent increase in tuition for undergraduates. Overall, spending would increase about 2.4 percent during the next fiscal year, which begins this summer. But campuses will have to scramble to find $8.5 million to pay for higher salaries. Milliken said that could lead to layoffs or program cuts.
