The Omaha Royals dropped a double header to the Nashville Sounds losing both game by two runs. In the first game, Nashville outscored Omaha 8-6. In the second game, The O-Royals came up short losing 3-1.
A two-out, two-run rally in the top of the sixth gave Nashville the win in the opener as Cole Gillespie doubled and scored on a triple by Jason Bourgeois, who scored on a single by Alcides Escobar. In game two, Michael Garciaparra hit his first homer on the first pitch of the 10th inning over the wall in left field for his first homer of the season and Angel Salome added a sacrifice fly.
Omaha second baseman Tug Hulett went 4 for 5 for the day, including three of the Royals’ six hits in the second game. Omaha reliever Greg Atencio (2-5) took the loss in the second game and has now lost three of the Royals’ last seven games. The O-Royals are now 0-7 in extra inning games. Nashville pitcher Lindsay Gulin, the former Lincoln Saltdog who started the second game, allowed one unearned run on four hits in six innings.
The series and homestand conclude on Monday with a 12:05 p.m first pitch.
