The Lincoln Saltdogs lost 5-1 to the Wichita Wingnuts. Lincoln took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth, but the Wingnuts exploded for five runs to complete a three-game sweep.
Saltdogs starter Jonathan Figueroa threw six scoreless innings while walking one batter and striking out six. Figueroa has now pitched 17 consecutive scoreless innings. A rain delay of over an hour and a half after the sixth inning, meant Figueroa could not return to the mound for the seventh inning and beyond.
After the rain delay, Daryl Arreola (0-3) pitched a scoreless seventh inning for Lincoln, but ran into trouble in the eighth. A walk and an RBI double tied the game, and Dustan Mohr’s RBI single put Wichita in front. Three more runs would follow as the rain began to fall again, sending Lincoln to its third straight defeat.
Lincoln is home to open a three-game series against Sioux City Monday night at 7:05pm. Righty Jim Paduch is expected to make the start for the Saltdogs.
