Governor Dave Heineman was very critical of the Federal Highway administration as he announced five new projects being submitted to the federal government for stimulus funding. Heineman thinks the administration is treating Nebraska differently than other states.
“What i’m suggesting is that in Nebraska it seems to take longer to get approval for the same type of projects, for the same type of documents as I talk to Governors and governmental leaders from other states. If they can get it done in 60 days and it takes us 120 days or 180 days whatever the process, that’s unfair.”
Several of the projects being submitted for approval involve interstate 80. The Heartland expressway project in western Nebraska is not being submitted because it does not fit the requirements for the funds.
