June 29, 2009 By Bill Pollock

John Hurley from O’Neill beat Andy Sajevic of Fremont 7 and 6 in the 36 hole final of the state match play at Willow Lake.

The junior from Texas A & M was up four after nine and 8 after 27 in route to his championship. Hurley’s next competition in Nebraska will be either the Nebraska Amateur at Ironwood Golf & Country Club or the Cox Classic in Omaha.

He intends to enter the Nationwide Tour event’s open qualifying, where he’ll be playing for one of 14 spots in the tournament, that is the day before the first round of the state amateur.
