John Manganaro, who has taken the Wayne State baseball program to seven of the last nine NCAA D-II tournaments is stepping down as head coach. Manganaro will become president of the Ultimate Baseball Academy in Omaha.
Manganaro is 55 and was head coach for 17 of the 20 years he was at Wayne State. As the manager, the Wildcats went 506-309-1 record (.620), including 198-54 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games. His Wildcats won six NSIC regular-season titles. This past season, Wayne State finished 45-15 last season and set a record for wins by an NSIC team in league play at 27-4. The Wildcats also reached the title game of the NCAA Division II Central Regional before falling to Mesa State, 8-2.
Wayne State assistant coach Brian Disch, a former Wildcat player, will be named interim coach.
