Manager Mike Jirschele took a chance and it paid off as he sent the speedy Tim Raines Jr. home on an Irving Falu single in the bottom of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie and eventually give the Omaha Royals a 4-2 win over New Orleans.
Tim Raines Jr. also scored another run and continued his hot hitting with two singles and a double. Raines Jr is 10 of his last 23 as Omaha won for the fourth time in five games, their best stretch of baseball since the end of April. John Buck also connected with his second home run in six rehab games in Omaha.
Other notable stats for Omaha. Falu extended his hitting streak to eight games, and is hitting .400 during that stretch. Matt Wright pitched 3.1 innings of relief for his first win of the season.
Former Husker and Lincoln Southeast grad, Alex Gordon will DH tonight for Omaha. The team will open the gates at 4 p.m. so fans can watch full Royals batting practice. There were just fewer than 3,000 tickets remaining and the team expects close to 24,000 fans for tonight’s game.
