A 65-year-old former patient of the Beatrice State Developmental Center has died. It was one of the patients who was recently moved. Months ago, the state’s chief medical officer said BSDC could no longer care for medically fragile patients. That’s why Sarah Schnell was moved into a Lincoln nursing home. She died Thursday. Schnell’s stepbrother and guardian wasn’t pleased with the care his stepsister was receiving in the last half year of her life. He reportedly beleived the move from the center contributed to her declining health. She had lived in BSDC for 53 years. Some 47 patients have been moved from the Beatrice center, four have died.
