The Omaha Royals didn’t waste any time scoring all seven of their runs in the first four innings of their 7-2 win over the Iowa Cubs in Des Moines. First baseman Kila Ka’aihue went 3 for 5 with three runs scored and three RBIs.
Omaha scored three runs in the first inning after the first two batters of the game were retired. Ka’aihue doubled in two and later scored on a single. After the Memphis series, manager Mike Jirschele talked about his team needing to string hits together instead of waiting for the three run homer. Omaha did exactly that in the third inning reaching on three straight singles. Later a sac fly and another two out single made it a 5-0 game. Ka-aihue picked up his third RBI in the fourth and scored on Scott Thorman’s triple.
Stephen Randolph went five innings giving up just two runs despite walking six and allowing five hits. Victor Marte pitched three scoreless innings of relief while Chris Hayes pitched the ninth.
Tuesday’s game starts at 12:05 with Kyle Davies getting the nod.
