Wednesday, the Senate Agriculture committee will take up the proposed Cap and Trade legislation. Senator Mike Johanns is strongly against Cap and Trade which would make certain types of energy more expensive to produce.
“If you try to wrestle this problem down overnight by making energy costs higher, you’re just going to have a very downside impact on the economy and on people’s lives.”
The goal of the legislation is to make carbon intensive energy more expensive and burning coal is carbon intensive. Johanns says Nebraska gets a large portion of its energy from coal. The President feels the legislation would promote more clean forms of energy such as wind power.
