J.J. Killeen followed up Thursday’s 63 with a 66 on Friday to share the lead of the Cox Classic Nationwide Tour event with Jonas Blixt, a 25 year old native of Sweden who shot a 65 to move into the final pairing with Killeen.
Two strokes behind the co-leaders are Michael Sim and Tadd Fujikawa. If Sim can win, he’ll join the PGA Tour with his third Nationwide Tour win this season. Also making the cut were former Omahan Brady Schnell and Jon Petersen, only the second Nebraska PGA qualifier to get to the weekend in the tournament’s 14 years.
Brandon Crick and John Hurley were 1-2 all week with Crick holding off Hurley to claim his second Nebraska Amateur golf title in three years. Crick shot a 68 Friday at Ironwood to finish at 17-under 271, matching the second-lowest winning score in tournament history. He finished four strokes ahead of Hurley, who ended at 13 under after a final-round 71.
