Travis Metcalf and Tug Hulett homered and the Omaha Royal held on for a 5-4 win over the Iowa Cubs. It was a rare, one run win for Omaha who is the worst team in the Pacific Coast League in one run ballgames and in holding late leads.
Metcalf broke out of a huge slump in which he is hitting just .139 since June 17th. He gave Omaha the lead with a two run single in the first inning that broke a 1-1 tie. His homer then put the Royals on top in the fourth. Metcalf went 2 for 4.
Reliever Greg Holland made his Omaha debut and allowed a run in the 8th, but picked up his first save by shutting down Iowa in the 9th. Kansas City reliever Kyle Farnsworth began an injury rehab by pitching a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two.
