Omaha picked up its league-high 14th shutout as Lenny DiNardo, Victor Marte and Doug Waechter held down the Iowa Cubs for a 5-0 win Wednesday night at Rosenblatt, Stadium. For DiNardo, he moves to 7-4 on the year and it is the fifth shutout he has been involved with.
DiNardo gave up eight hits in six innings, while Marte and Waechter held Iowa to one hit over the final three innings. DiNardo is in the top five in the Pacific Coast League with a 3.26 ERA, and 93 strikeouts. Omaha DH Tug Hulett went 3 for 4, coming a triple short of the cycle, and his fourth-inning homer gave the Royals a 4-0 lead. Hulett has been red hot in the last 15 games, hitting .434 (23 for 53) with three homers and 15 runs. His average is now up to .316.
As for the 14 shutouts, it’s the most for Omaha since 1990, their club record is 19. Game three of the four game series is tonight at 7:05.
