Former BSDC resident dies – family blames move

August 17, 2009 By Nebraska Radio Network Contributor

Another former resident of the Beatrice State Developmental Center has died.  A 71 year old man died on Wednesday. Judd Davis was the ninth of the 47 “medically fragile” residents to die since the state’s chief medical officer ordered in February that they be moved from the center, because BSDC could not provide proper care.

Davis had lived at the Beatrice center for more than 50 years. The family reportedly believes the move contributed to his death.

State health officials have said they don’t believe moving the patients played a role in their deaths.
